Cooperative Learning is a process where a group of students or people work together in heterogeneous groups to solve a particular problem, project or other instructional goal, while teachers act as guides or facilitators. It is a method which works to reinforce a student’s own learning and also the learning of his or her fellow group members. It can enhance the overall academic performance, if the following competencies are present:-

Plan: - You have goals and objectives to perform the academic task at hand, but you also need to do the planning that happens with cooperative learning. You need to consider the objectives for social skills, such as teamwork or peer accountability. The Other thing which you have to include is group size and composition. You also have to consider which types of assessment are most suitable for assignment and how the student will help with that aspect.
Introduce: - Tell about your goals and objective to your students is necessary. Explain the clear criteria for the academic task and behavioral expectations for working with peers. You should have to discuss all the things like time limits, accountability, and decision making within the group before the project starts.
Monitor: - When students start their works in their groups, then it is your duty to monitor and observe the things. You should be available to answer questions and provide clarification. You also need to spend some time with each group to monitor them. You have to observe how they work together and ask their queries if necessary.
Assess: - With the cooperative learning, assessment can be difficult or tricky sometimes. You want to hold both the individual and group accountability for the academic work and also the social objectives. It is better to determine a final grade is to use a mixture of self assessment, group assessment and your judgments.
Process: - Give time to your students to reflect upon their cooperative learning experience and give feedback on the academic assignment and the group structure. Also determine that what worked well and also look where you need to improve for the next time.
